Villarreal
Away-day guide
Vila-real is a small, walkable football town where the station, Plaça Major and Estadio de la Cerámica are all within roughly 25 minutes of one another. Valencia usually offers the easiest flights and nightlife, but staying locally makes matchday simple and keeps taxi costs down.
Public transport
Vila-real is small enough to handle mainly on foot: Plaça Major to Estadio de la Cerámica takes about 12–15 minutes, while the railway station is roughly 20–25 minutes from the ground. The municipal Bus Groguet network is free, so there is no useful city-bus day pass to buy. Renfe Cercanías trains use separate distance-based tickets, bought from station machines or the ticket office; bank cards are not a substitute for a valid rail ticket. There is no metro or tram. If staying in Valencia or Castelló, check the last C6 train carefully because late kick-offs can leave you needing a taxi.

✈ Airports & cheaper alternatives
- Castellón–Costa Azahar Airport CDT primary 42 km Take the airport bus to Castelló de la Plana bus and railway station, then a Renfe C6 train to Vila-real. Airport buses are generally arranged around flights rather than running frequently all day. The local airport and the quickest option when its limited flight schedule works. Public transport is fairly thin, so check the airport-bus timetable before booking.
- Valencia Airport VLC alternative 70 km Take Metrovalencia line 3 or 5 to Xàtiva, walk across to Valencia Nord station, then take a Renfe C6 train towards Castelló and get off at Vila-real. Usually the most practical airport, with far more routes and often lower fares, but allow roughly two hours for the full public-transport journey.
- Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport ALC alternative 220 km Take Alicante airport bus C6 to the city centre and railway station, then a booked Renfe long-distance train towards Valencia or Castelló. Change to Cercanías C6 where required for Vila-real. Can be very cheap on some weekends, but the long transfer makes it sensible only when the saving is substantial or Valencia flights are poor.
🍺 Supporters' pubs
Villarreal CF
Home fans: Home supporters gather at the terrace bars around Plaça Major. Casal del Futbol, beneath Bocateria Els Lluïsos, is a Villarreal supporters’ club; La Tribuna and Bar Deportivo are traditional stadium-side bars. The club also runs a matchday Fan Zone outside Fondo Sur, the home singing end.
Away fans: Bar Milagros is a Villarreal peña bar but has a record of welcoming visiting support. Cristal is also described as away-friendly, while 1800 Cocktail Bar, Vila-Beer Irish Pub and Bar El Belga are commonly recommended neutral options. Plaça Major can work as a mixed meeting point, although police arrangements may change for higher-risk fixtures. There is no reliable standing blacklist of bars, but Casal del Futbol and La Tribuna are firmly home-oriented.
Villarreal CF are entered in the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League. The town is generally relaxed with visiting fans, but UEFA fixtures and higher-risk opponents can bring separate meeting points or tighter police control.

Nightlife
Plaça Major is the easiest starting point, with terraces suitable for groups and more bars along Carrer Major Sant Jaume and nearby central streets. Vila-real is better for an early evening and matchday drinks than for a full late-night session. For clubs and later bars, Castelló de la Plana has more choice around its centre, but the C6 train does not run through the night, so plan the return before heading there.
Food & drink
Look for rice dishes such as paella, arroz al horno and seafood arroz, plus fideuà, grilled cuttlefish, croquetas and local cocas. Olla de la Plana is the area’s hearty vegetable-and-meat stew. A caña is the normal small draught beer order; ask for a jarra if you want something closer to 0.5 litres. For a quick matchday meal, bocadillos filled with tortilla, pork loin or calamari are widely available.
Cheap eats & beer
Vila-real is compact, so the useful budget circuit is between Plaça Major and the stadium. Bocateria Els Lluïsos is a straightforward bocadillo stop and has the Casal del Futbol supporters’ club beneath it. Around the ground, Bar Milagros and Cristal are accustomed to visiting supporters; Bar El Belga, Vila-Beer Irish Pub and 1800 Cocktail Bar are also commonly suggested to away fans. Plaça Major and the streets immediately off it are best for comparing terrace-bar prices without committing to a sit-down meal. Order cañas, bocadillos, croquetas or a few shared tapas to keep costs down. La Tribuna and Bar Deportivo are traditional home haunts, while Casal del Futbol is strongly Villarreal-oriented; peaceful visitors may be accepted, but they are not designated away pubs.
Staying safe
Vila-real is generally low-risk, but keep phones and wallets secure on crowded trains, terraces and stadium approaches. Pickpocketing is a bigger concern while changing in Valencia than around the ground itself. Do not drift into the Fondo Sur Fan Zone in a large group wearing away colours, and treat Casal del Futbol, La Tribuna and other obvious peña bars as home territory. Avoid drinking from glass bottles while walking to the stadium if police have imposed matchday controls. Keep a photo of your ticket separately, but carry the original ID required for admission.
On matchday
Visiting allocations are normally segregated in Fondo Norte, but use the entrance and gate printed on the ticket because UEFA layouts can change. Carry the original ID or passport matching the booking, and arrive 60–90 minutes early for searches and ticket checks. Fondo Sur and its official Fan Zone are the main home-support areas. Police normally control or restrict traffic on the streets immediately around Estadio de la Cerámica, particularly Carrer de Blasco Ibáñez and the approaches to the stands; there is no routine closure of Vila-real railway station, but visiting groups may be held back or directed along a set route. Follow club or police instructions issued for the individual fixture.
